Not sure if it's just me, but nearly every essay comes across as pretentious. It's almost as if Sedaris wants to impress the reader with everything from buying his underwear in London to the 5 star hotels he chooses during his book tours. I'm bored with this

Past memories from reading Sedaris are filled with laughter. After reading the first 6 or 7 essays I've yet to smile, snicker or grin. I hadn't realized how popular he is since most all the stories stem from experiences on book tours. Regardless, if the next few are as lackluster as the first, this will end up in the DNF pile
