Not at all impressed by Rifkin's interpretation of Jonas's reaction to sunburn. Reminded me of Sisko's reaction to Jennifer on the beach in The Emmisary, tbh.

I'm not original in saying this at all, but the apple incident is really the main reason The Giver never fully worked as a movie adaptation. It kind of only works as a book.

And here am at 10, still using my comfort object. Then again, I have a feeling with my AuDHD I would have been released long ago...

I've always envied the idea of having a committee assign a career to me, knowing they put all this energy into making sure it suited both my interests and talents already, so I wouldn't have to stress about it like I do IRL.

All these little musical bitties are so annoying, and they're so poorly timed. They sound like they should go during breaks between sections, but they're just... Covering the dialogue, and they don't even really add to the text. They must have felt like SOMETHING had to be added to keep the attention of the target age group, but it was so poorly executed.

For as many problems as the community in The Giver have, essentially having nightly therapy with one's family is not one of them.

Got the audiobook from Libby, so I'm starting over (was at roughly 15% - estimated since I was reading from the quartet). Solo narration by Ron Rifkin.

Re-reading this for the first time in forever for one of the Goodreads Challenges. Figured since it'll be a short read, and we'll worth the re-visit. It'll be a little difficult to calculate progress since I only have the quartet, but I'll just do it as a percentage out of 23 chapters.
