intriguing characters so far, but i'm still unsure how i feel about the writing. the first chapter threw me off a bit, but the ensuing action was fun, and easy to read. i think the story benefits from a bunch of characters as opposed to just vis's narration, which leans very tell instead of show.

i do like the slow reveal of the world, and the horrifying magic system.
