All mules were skeptics, in Learned Edmund’s experience. Sweetness the mule, so far as he could tell, did not believe in the existence of anything except food, and only the food that was directly in front of her at that. There might be food in other places, and she was, perhaps, willing to make the experiment, but she was not going to get her hopes up.

“Huh.” The Dervish could think of at least five people he’d happily dismember, without even trying hard. Granted, four of them were probably already dead of old age so it wasn’t likely to come up, but he felt it was important to have his priorities straight.

It was a plain blade, a bit longer than a short sword, not as long as a longsword, which presumably just made it a sword-sword. It was rather wide at the base, but then, the Dervish had always preferred girth to length.
