Describing Godzilla without ever naming the monster and there being no doubt in the reader's head that he's talking about Godzilla is a flex. A lesser author would've just said, "The poster was for the new Godzilla movie."

Ishigura's ability to write about something without writing about it is unparalleled. The father, his son's paintings, the dismissal of the boys talent and lack of discipline, followed by the smell of something burning. Majestic ass writing.
