In the book I was happy when Marnie ditched the cool girls for Nola. Marnie says "Nola I would never choose anyone over you" (103). Marnie is telling Nola that's she will always be her best friend. Marnie and Nola have always been friends and they shouldn't let anyone get in between that.

Marnie and Nola aren't best friends. Marnie says "If you won't let me have other friends you won't be my friend"(137). Nola won't let Marnie be friends with the cool people so now they can't be friends. Now Nola left and can't find any other friends.
