This is the first romance (among those with covers and titles that sell hot lovers) that I've read where there are truly brutal scenes and where reality is shown in all its crudeness and the background story is told without embellishment. It's not a romantic fairy tale, but a psychologically realistic book. What a fantastic author!

While the hero is so good in the first part, I hate him now. The author has changed the H. into a total asshole who sleeps with every woman he meets, while the heroine is now a poor, recluse spinster craving his love, and if he doesn't come back, there are no other interested admirers. Frankly, whether he chooses to stay with her at this point doesn't matter to me... he hasn't made much of an effort to win her back.

Finally, a truly intense romance novel, not only from a romantic perspective, but also from a historical, psychological, and moral one. I repeat: it's a shame that these idiotic covers focus solely on the sex content of the novel, because the content offers so much more... These covers diminish the content and the author.

From its mediocre cover, it might seem like the usual Regency romance, all passionate kisses and unlaced corsets, but it has an interesting historical backdrop, described in a dramatic and evocative way. It's a shame there are no historical notes or notes on the Indian names of places and customs. These days, doing online research and getting answers is very easy...
Yet I consider it a shortcoming of the publishers.
