The first story in this little collection, The Ardennes Forest is very reminiscent of Harpman's rediscovered modern classic, I Who Have Never Known Men, and I liked it for all the same reasons.

Whichever one she originally wrote first undoubtedly inspired the other, but it's been a while so this made for a nice way to jump back in her work.
