yap: the craft is fine, pleasant even, but i kind of can't get over the way she writes ab race. i think it's arguable that it's necessary to some degree to accurately portray the time period but it's just disinteresting to me. i kind of just can't enjoy anything strictly modernist or 'realistic' without some very intense emotional reckoning, or otherwise some kind of metaphorical post-modernism. wama!
