I see you found a very short story, Maria, but with a powerful impact. This reminds me of Hem's style, where a few words can reveal what others would write in four hundred pages. The sacrifices we make on the altar of love defy all imagination, when we realize that giving everything means losing nothing.

Ainda não terminei, mas, sendo eu leitora de cartas de amor, este conto é motivo de grande reflexão. Este selfless love tem uma pureza e uma generosidade muito próprias. Não há amores melhores ou piores, apenas amores diferentes.
Lê-se com o coração, não com a cabeça: é o lado mais puro e abnegado do amor. Há conforto. ❤️

This story shows a different way of looking at love, especially if we compare it with Albert and Maria, Milena and Franz, and others. The differences are clear. I think you could write something very beautiful about what love is. The love between Maria and Albert is more mature and lucid, I think.

You are perfectly right, Maria. I just read the présentation of the book, and I am already very touched about it. And yes, it seems that here is a totally another kind of love.
Mainly on sacrifice, of giving all.

And I can't help but remember what Hemingway wrote once :
