finally reading this in tandem with OREO because 1) satires by black women and 2) i had a feeling it would be very easy to read compared to OREO (which is just denser with a lot of wordplay, references, and yiddish i have to take the time to look up)

idk if kiley reid intended to write briar as an autistic toddler but she's kinda a textbook case without feeling like caricature. it's nice to read, especially about a very young girl, when neurodivergent girls are often just seen as "quirky" or "weird," which briar is but also she is probably neurodivergent too.
