Status Update

Ok I am confused. In the 1st chapter we learn that 6 mon ago she hit her head and woke up not remembering anything before that, but then in chapters 1 and 2 she says things like we always, or we never, and my friend matured over the last year.... and she's devastated by the loss of family she was with for 3 months? I really hope this gets explained, as the story continues because as is, WTF are publisher's doing?!?
