The novel is more interesting now that it's picked up more pace. I don't understand the plot completely or the sub-stories, but I do think it will slowly come together. There are a lot of references to WWII from the perspective of Japanese soldiers which is interesting especially when I am able to compare it to the many American novels I've read about the war.
