As stated before this is not what I'd hoped for. Unrequited love, sadness and drudgery drive the predictable plot. I'm not sure why GR recommended it as similar to Mink River. I'm going to quit while I'm ahead. Apologies to those who enjoy his stories

In all honesty it's not what I'd call engaging or unique. A parallel story of Stephen's dying father and his pursuit of Gabriella, a violinist he had fallen in love with without having met her.

While somewhat engaging the undercurrent of sadness and predictable plot takes away from what I hoped. And while the GR algorithm suggested it was of the same ilk as Brian Doyle her narrative and style are entirely different.

While enjoyable, its rare to see a character fall in love with a woman he's never met or spoken to..its more like he's in love with the notion of her. Will have to see how this plays out

Some compared this author to Brian Doyle due to her lyrical narrative style. And while she's a talented writer, and easily engages a reader, they have little in common. That said there's no denying she knows the topic of faith and love and how they intertwine.

Unfamiliar with the author I find her narrative engaging though sadness permeates the plot. She's a gifted writer whose characters offer insight into the human condition. Hopefully a ray of joy will arrive and dispel the sadness
