Helena is taken hostage by the government and learns that there is a secret agency that’s goal is to hoard “protect” advanced technology. They form a group whose goal is to stop especially horrible events from happening. They prevent a few murders, school shootings, etc and pick up some vitally status in the attempt to create a fear in the mind of would be criminals. Instead the big dawgs in the military catch

Marcus knows that they are coming for him so instead they try to go for the chair first. Again Barry is shot this time in the liver and Helena goes back once more. They manage to take out Marcus’s whole group but not the chair when a swat team headed by Gwen enters the situation and kills Barry.
We learn that Barry and Helena had a relationship in the original timeline and that she kind of loves him.

Helena and Barry plan for the next morning where they will assult hotel memory. The start by infiltrating the basement and using an old service stairwell to climb the floors but are hung up when a flashlight sweeps towards them in the light. They duck into a hallway and take a women hostage. Helena cuts her arm to”make a save point” and tells Barry they she just came back 15 mins and Barry had been shot

They hide back in her apartment and talk through what needs to happen. Really she is relating a plan they made together in the future. They can’t let the government get involved because someone will steal the chair so they need to end it themselves.

11 years have now pasted in the altered timeline, the anniversary of Barry going back has been reached and Julia and Meghan remember M’s death. They really freak out and Barry has to explain the hike thing. A day or so goes by with everyone and there mother calling him to ask why they remember his daughter dying when it gets worse. Much worse.

When in the hotel an old man talks about building a new building.

Helena stays off the grid. After 3 years when the timelines converge she visits her mom who has mostly forgotten her

Barry goes back to save his daughter. Helena goes back when she realizes that the power that she had given her boss. She denies the job offer and runs away.

This means that the FMS is people’s memories of the original timeline are resurfacing because the first event when slade went back is just happening now. We also know that the man whose wife jumped underwent the experience and that’s why the jumper had such a big reaction. When people remember a wedding it’s because it did happen. The book is calling attention to Déjà vu

Okay…. A lot happened here and shifted a lot of what I thought was happening. When someone dies in the rig they go back to the memory that was originally recorded. Meanwhile everyone that they interacted with between the memory and the moment of death has that strand of memory turn gray and die. Helena’s boss was there when a man sided in the tank in 2018 by mistake and went back to control the chairs power
