I was almost scared off of danmei by "The Heaven Official's Blessing" which assumed the reader has extensive knowledge of Chinese history/lore/mythology.

You do not need anything like that for this novel. And it gets to the yearning, romancey stuff pretty quickly. My kind of book! I am so glad I did not allow "Heaven Official" dissuade me from danmei all together!
