I am amazed at the history and geological information. A combination of John McPhee and Eric Larson rolled into great writing and a gentle voice. Using both the print and the audio done by David Ackroyd for my reading. Dense at times and not an easy read as far as plot but oh the language

in early pages this seems more like a group of linked short stories than a novel or perhaps a road trip by mule. Lots of great learning of history, impossible to know if fact or fiction but oh the rabbit holes on this dirt road that the reader could fall into
