Elsa's grandmother's story is seeping out slowly as the people in her block of flats receive letters. I feel a link to her grandmother - some women have lived such lives when the greater good took precedence over their own home lives. Something to shout about at a funeral. Achievements. But Elsa's grandmother has regrets. Perhaps the age old regrets of Achievements vs Motherhood. We'll see.

Frederik B's children aren't just children. And the adults aren't just adults. There are his children & adults and then there are the one dimensional children and adults who act as supporting players with a small job to perform in the story. There are plenty of them, but they're unimportant. Elena is the heroine. Our Friend, The Monster, Mom, and Grandma are important with a back story. But they are there for Elena.

Oh dear. I'm not quite loving this as much as Frederik Bakman's other books yet (A Man Called Ove, My Friends, or even Anxious People). Still, only in the 'introductory' phase. Plenty of time yet.
