Apparently I'm unable to review a book without listening to it twice, and I don't want to out this one off until who knows when, so I'm starting it again the day after I started it the first time. Gonna to at 1.5x, though.

Placing my palm against his chest, I push. He goes back easily
I can’t help but grin. “You’re kind of my bitch, aren’t you?”
“Yes,” he responds without a second’s hesitation.
Shaking my head, I laugh. “Come on, bitch.”

Honestly, I kind of get tired of these "asexual spectrum" characters in the genre, because instead of feeling like representation of demisexuality or some other kind of greysexuality, it ends up just feeling like romanticizing the idea of only being sexually attracted to this one person. Unsurprisingly, Annabeth Albert is one of the few authors I think got this right, in Out of Uniform #5: Squared Away.

“Keep breathing just like that. I’m not going anywhere, okay? Just give it some time. You’ll be alright.”
He swallows hard. When he speaks, his voice is wrecked and raw. “How can you be so sure?”
“Because I won’t let you not be.”

Immediate thoughts: Review shouldn't take long for this one, but um, so, yeah. Somehow mild yet OH SO FUCKING HOT. Also, while I don't read a lot of the trope, this is probably the best "I'd kill for you" MC/book I've ever read/listened to. May become one of my favorites after a confirmation listen.

Chapter 26. How is something simultaneously so tame and so spicy? I guess that just goes to show how much context can play into spice. It's also why I rate spice not just on quantity and intensity, but also quality (something like spice vibe).

Shit. This is another one of those books where the author does such a great job of turning "sexuality" or "sex" into something that is so much more than that, and I don't just mean a spiritual experience or whatever. This scene at the end of chapter 22 is, as like that one I mentioned in Lot 62, truly not about being titillating for the reader, but showing the emotions of the MCs.

So not only did the boy obsessed with death find himself a serial killer, but that same boy who carries around trauma found himself a consent king.
Murder good, rape bad.

"If he needs comfort, I’ll soothe him.
If he’s touch starved, I’ll feed him.
If he wants pleasure, I’ll satiate him.
If he needs death, I’ll kill for him."
I don't normally go for 'touch him and die' energy (although it can be done well regardless - you can pry TMATM from my cold, dead hands), but I found that insanely sweet.
