hard to put down. i stopped using the amazingly comprehensive Web 1.0 reader's guide pretty early on; so far, the references are clearer and more intriguing than Foucault's Pendulum and the prose is easier and more mellifluous than Mason & Dixon. the hyperbombastic Gass foreword (i am more predisposed to say this having just finished two of the big WHG joints) all but confirms him as a guilt-ridden Gaddis plagiarist.

agreed on all accounts. the guide is nice for translations of the random hungarian etc that pop up.

it helps that since ~2016 you can open twitter or whatever and run into two people talking about Mithraism pretty quickly but it's also nice that his lumpy, run-on sentences (and paragraphs, and scenes) often just outright provide context for even the wackiest allusions. you don't really get that from Pynchon or the other smartypants bros.
