reading this is interesting as i've read gilgamesh & finished odyssey this year as (according to the annotations & such) there r frequent enough parallels to 'near eastern' epics & mythology such as gilgamesh & the first 5 books of the hebrew bible originate in oral tradition so there's many similarities to the odyssey in frequent repetitions in syntax & vocabulary
