I’m starting to think that Cathy almost acts as a mirror to the men around her & that’s why most of them, besides Adam, can’t handle being in her presence. I know Cathy ain’t a saint but it’s interesting to read everyone’s convictions.

Here Steinbeck goes again...making me feel so deeply for characters & beautifully writing dynamics ALREADY. I fell behind reading other books & preparing my outline for East of Eden but I was just sucked up! "He doesn't think his father loves him. But you love him - you always have."

Adam definitely projects his own insecurities but at this point she’s just an allegory.
