Describing the displays at the Ashmolean museum, Oxford, she relates again how the 'prince of the lilies' or 'priest-king fresco' was assembled out of fragments from three (different?) frescos. This for her illustrates that Minoan civilsation is a reconstruction rather than something that was discovered

I always find it interesting how quickly gaps in the archaeological record invite us to imagine a whole temperament for a civilisation. No fortifications, flowers in the hair and suddenly the Minoans become the peaceful free spirits of the Bronze Age. I wonder how much of that picture belongs to them and how much to us.

No fortifications, flowers in the hair and suddenly the Minoa..."That is precisely what has been argued about the rarly interpretation by Arthur Evans who started excavating Knossos at the beginning of the 20th century and naturally it was a very attractive picture after WWI.
