Are humans gone in Wind in the Willows world? Because if there was a city where the Wild Woods stood and it is completely gone except what is in Badger's home. I take it that the Wild Woods is very old

I think Hobbits would appreciate Badger's home and Badger would appreciate a Hobbit's home

Imagine reading this for the very first time in 1908 and wandering if sweet little mole was going to die. The suspense of Mr Mole's walk into the Wild Woods is top notch!

1. Did poop mean something different in 1908?
2 Are all animals anthropomorphic in this world? So the horse and the canary are as intelligent as rat, mole and toad but choose to live in a stable or cage?
