this book has a lot of interesting things to say about bureaucracy and japanese style fascism and the government is way scarier than the Capitol but it’s so funny that the “remember who the real enemy is” theme is somewhat undercut by some of these kids being straight up psychopaths. why r u the terminator u r a middle schooler

no one told me this book was set in an alternate reality where Japan wins ww2 and becomes the dictatorship the Republic of Greater East Asia. kind of funny this could take place in the same universe as the hunger games/the Capitol with the dictatorships just sort of splitting the world and having their own kids kill each other
