Low key forgot this book is set in the late 1950s and early 1960s lol - so yeah I still am not a fan of Fon BUT given the era his mindset and his take on life both make more sense

Ok so I’m now 150 pages in & still enjoying the book but Fon is just pissing me off lol. Aside from what he did (+dumb reasoning), his whole mindset that “being a real man meant being assertive” & “respect wasn’t simply given; it had to be commanded” and my favorite“[women] wanted to be able to submit” gave me the ick. Like be confident with who you are & not who you think others want u to be brother
