This book is science fiction and not science fact, and there is no real science in the umbrella of a work of fiction, which by definition is fake. No one’s doing real science in a fiction work. So, IMO, anything goes in fake, in fiction. However...I don’t think the writer of AOI has science training (?), especially in atmospheric science, and because of a part in this story, I want to explain something below….

This story has gotten very creepy--I wouldn't do the things the characters have been doing in this lol! They're too risky. It's starting to feel like I'm watching a horror movie, and I'm like, "What the hell are they thinking? Or maybe they're not thinking at all!" Which is strange for tends-to-be-intellectual Star Trek.
But, it's creating a suspenseful read....

Will get back to this tonight--for various reasons, I never got a change to read any of this last night, like I'd been doing every night.

This story has gotten quite suspenseful and I'm still enjoying it! Note that I had been updating my progress in the comments section of my previous update.

This oddball yet realistically necessary thing made me laugh: sunscreen is caked in the ridges above a Bajoran's nose lollll. Sometimes Star Trek is silly and people ridiculously don't do, have or use the things they logically should, like use seatbelts!!

I'm liking this so far, which is a good thing considering my DNFing with the few other Voyager books I'd tried. I do wish there were fewer characters to keep track of in AOI. It seems like the newer Star Trek & Star Wars books all suffer from an inability--or lack of will--to reduce the size of the "casts" inside them, maybe in an attempt to seem more epic? Uh, I don't think that really works. Condense, condense....

The story's getting more developed. Those biodomes are neat but also creepy. I hope the people in this don't make a really bad mistake!

I really like the weird biodome stuff in this, but I don't know if there will be more about that later on....

I'm up to pg. 162. I didn't get enough sleep, and I need to get some crocheting done today. Once again my yarn stash has ballooned into too big an amount and needs condensing. Will probably give away what I make.
I didn't get to read any of this today because it's a bit intense for me when it activates my science-brain like it did yesterday lol. I'll read a little of it tonight, although I'm kind of in the mood to read my own romantic Rose book, especially to counteract that I had just been playing scary Arkham Horror before, the Film Fatale scenario pack. Some really nifty cards in it with retro space and sci-fi images!
...Tonight I've read to pg. 180, getting close to half-way done; the story's also getting more interesting. And the problem I had with not being able to finish the other Voyager books--those were older and by different writers. I like this writer's writing better.
Will be reading more of this tonight. I'm anxious to see exactly where it's leading. The story's been very character-oriented so far, but I have a feeling a lot of action might be up ahead in its future....I've been so busy here on GR today, though, and I think I need to give my updating a rest till tomorrow.

“We’re in an enclosed biodome,” Chakotay said. “There are no weather patterns to create air flow.”
--You don’t need “weather patterns” to create air flow; air flow from uneven or unequal heating is what creates “weather,” at least on Earth and in an Earth-like atmosphere and gravitational profile.*
For example, if two surfaces near each other are at different temperatures, the warmer air above the warmer surface will rise more readily, and that will tend to push that warmer expanding air over the cooler air beside it, which cooler air will tend to move in the opposite direction to fill the gap left by the warmer air, effectively creating a circulation cell.
The same thing would likely happen and probably does happen even in a room or wherever, on Earth under normal circumstances and under normal circumstances in a room where there aren’t open windows, and artificial fans or something pushing the air around, which forces would change the scenario.
Heat is effectively at the heart of weather, or at least is the predominant driver of it, and of circulation cells.
The biodome in question has a large warm plate on the ground, and other ground areas around the plate. Chakotay’s just stepped from the ground onto the plate, and noticed how warm it is, which means the ground had been cooler.
I feel like both Chakotay and Janeway should know the things I wrote above.... But, like I said: fiction is fake. I never expect real-science accuracy in fiction because that’s impossible to have in a 100% fake constructed context.
*(The biodome’s air is breathable to the characters in this, and I’m assuming is at least very close to Earth’s gravity because people are walking around normally in the biodome.)
