I almost DNF’d this one but then the mute girl went and throttled someone who had it coming and it was great.

It's the kind of literary fiction where each chapter is fairly mundane until the POV character drops some horrific lore; like their best friend committed suicide or they watched their baby cousin fall face first into a thorny bush and blind themselves.
