Dr. Gaul is disgusting and horrific... but she's not wrong on the end of page 243.
Thats honestly the entire reason Ive had such big issues with the Trilogy.
Its a choice. Its always a choice.

Oh my... Songbirds I think got too much into the mind of a villain. Plus I didn't like the ending and it felt way too random and rushed. Like "oh everyone is happy and content" and then suddenly THAT THING happens close to the end and I was like what the heck corio?? I kind of liked you. So yeah. Too dark (which is ironic to say that about a hunger games book haha), and too rushed.
Now the other one, Sunrise on the Reaping, was just... Wow. Absolutely stunning, but very very gruesome. Some of the ways people die in it made me actually shudder. It felt more verging on the dark/horror side of a thriller. Definitely a thriller, but just leaning towards that grey line of horror. Also the ending was... well I won't spoil it, but the ending really got me. I... yeah. Anyways. That one was rough for me.

I gotcha. Im not sure if you read my review yet, but either way, as far as dystopian, getting into the brain of Corio was interesting to me.
I just read Sunrise too, that one definitely bordered on horror and I dislike it a little more than the others for that reason. And yeah, the ending was good, I is gonna have to read the main trilogy and then possibly reread these two to see what comes out of the retranslation. I imagine seeing the books through the lens of the series makes them different.
