So it turns out I was half-right... in that I called the twist, but it actually came out of nowhere and what I thought would have been a fun subtle clue to it actually wasn't anything at all. Oh well! Still having fun with this series.

No, there's a scene where the young, secretly evil teacher comes into the room with Morrigan and the older one, and he's very dismissive, addressing the younger one like he's still a student at the school. Which made me realize that we'd only ever seen the young guy interact with his class before, so what if he was an imposter, like an upperclassman or a recent graduate only pretending to be their teacher for some nefarious purposes? But then later it turns out... no, he really is their teacher, but also he's unrelatedly / coincidentally the traitor.
