Not to mention— Thersites is genuinely funny. His cynicism is appealing in the otherwise wooden play.

Venereal image of Agamemnon makes sense-- his sin is sexual. Furthermore, he's the "source" of flaw among the Greeks, which spreads down the military hierarchy, according to Thersites in a meta deconstruction of Ulysess' bottom-up argument.

Opens up somewhat in the second act. Here, Thersites, structurally our fool, unravels Ulysses’ grand dialogue into truth; whereas Ulysses identifies a bottom-up dilemma (where soldiers scorn their betters and hierarchy fails) Thersites proposes trickle-down foolery (Agamemnon, whose foolish war demands hierarchical servitude, implicates Greece in his foolery— from the top down)

Impenetrable Shakespeare; words chosen here have not stood the test of time, exacerbate immensely poetic passages. Ulysses has interesting ideas, although requires much work.

Class focuses on Thersites, who’ll emerge in act 2; nonetheless, I look forward to not having to read this anymore
