The class differences, Connell's anxiety, and Marianne's insecurity sometimes make me feel like I'm viewing my own behaviour through a third person perspective.
Also, I think people are really overreacting about the lack of speech marks. It thickens the them of miscommunication, but also all the characters have such distinctive voices that it's not hard at all to know who's speaking and when.

Reading this makese reopened and deepened the ache I got from watching the series. The teenage experience is so heartbreakingly captured and I literally see myself in both of them (I think I'm their unborn child).
