He hasn't described using a mobility aid at all or like getting special orthopedic shoes and it really sounds like he needs both so I'm really curious if he has any or he's still somehow got so much internalized ableism that he just refuses to

Like he is describing ableism but he seems unwilling to admit that the things he's depicting ARE ableism

His depiction of the accident injuries is also strange because like it definitely was a horrible and serious thing but the way he depicts it comes off as exaggeration and I don't know why that is other than the medical details he's shared being inconsistent

I think the biggest problem is two-fold

1. The things he's talking about are ableism and grief with the grief being compounded by the ableism
2. His whole "I died and went to heaven" thing is so clearly a fabricated hallucination as he lay unconscious on the highway (these kinds of hallucinations are common when dying) and roping his whole family into this like Franchise about his trauma is really gross actually

So much of this is the author going "don't forget I am a terrible person" without realising that he's saying it

See as a memoir about this man's pre-accident ableism and how that became internalized ableism he had to actively work to overcome post-accident I think this could be a genuinely interesting memoir

But instead it's a lot of like

Lying about how he definitely died and not was unconscious and non-responsive at the scene of the accident and how Gd brought him back to life and that's just untrue

Yeah man you were hallucinating that's common with traumatic head injuries

Like you didn't die. You might have been unconscious for an hour and a half. You might have been comatose for an hour and a half. But you did not DIE for an hour and a half. It's physically impossible to recover from an hour and a half of CLINICAL DEATH

If this was just about him processing his grief about being disabled by the extremely traumatic car accident he was in I would be less annoyed but instead he's got this whole grift built around the idea that he died and went to heaven when in reality your brain does that when you're close to death because it's panicking

Again, I am willing to believe many things but you did not die.
