i think my favorite thing about this book so far is how nostalgic it feels. this is so quintessential 2000s YA. how have i never heard of it? teenage me would've adored a gothic all girls boarding school horror/drama/thriller with a bitchy protag and random classic literature quotes/discussions (i would've felt like a total genius reading this).

secluded setting (girls’ boarding school in a castle), interesting main character (“interesting” she’s a bitch), horror is coming (one of the students may or may not be a vampire). i think the choice to have the narrative told solely through journal entries was clever but also being in a teenage girls mind is hell.
