The homoerotic subtext stopped being subtext there for a bit

I love that one of the narrative strands of this novel describes everything into agonizing detail while the other one straight-up has no setting. Where and when is this interview? Who is doing the interview? Will we ever find out? No one knows, too busy describing every single character's skin.
