Chaol and Aedion met in Aelin’s old apartment. They both explored her things. Aedion told Chaol stories of when magic vanished. There were waves coming from many directions and people screamed. Aedion vowed to never leave Aelin again. Dorian met Sorscha every day to try to dim his power. He ingested iron since iron dulls magic. He was angry about Chaol, Aelin, his father. He kissed her; her reaction was weird.

Dorian found out Celaena is Aelin, his mortal enemy. He realized everyone wanted to slaughter his father. Aedion found out Dorian has powers. Aedion trusts Chaol, but not Ren, from Terrasen and a noble part of the Galathynius family, and Murtaugh, his uncle, enough to tell them what Chaol told him: Aelin is alive in Wendlyn. Aedion took a bath oath to Aelin, an oath of complete submission. He was building her court.

Manon picked her wyvern after falling into the out with Titus and a bait beast. She and the bait worked together to take down Titus. She named him Abraxos. He was smaller than the rest of the wyverns and had his poison spines removed. Her grandmother made fun of her and punished her, but she would show them how much of a warrior Abraxos is.

Celaena escaped her cave just in time as skinwalkers peered in. She started to run and Rowan found her. She shifted to run to the water, but the skinwalkers said they would follow her into it. She pulled up more magic and shot blue flames at them. She described magic as pulling it from a well within. Rowan asked her how/why she shifted; she was scared but also didn’t want him to die. He told her she can’t leave.

Rowan said horrible things to Celaena, like she’d be more useful if she were dead. Celaena had enough and packed her bags to leave. She admitted that Nehemia is dead. She is doing all of this because of her promise to Nehemia and she misses her.

Celaena was miserable. Emrys kept telling stories that even Rowan listened to. Rowan shifted for her and then attacked her, which made her shift.

Chaol followed Aedion into the rebel’s meeting. Aedion threatened to kill him and Chaol revealed that Aelin is alive. Aedion is extremely loyal to his cousin Aelin. He played the King’s asset to restore power to Terrasen. He’s actually a good guy. Chaol closes the chapter by asking to make a bargain with Aedion.

Celaena was destroyed by Rowan’s training. He wanted her to shift and she couldn’t. Emrys told scary stories of Wendlyn, and Rowan watched in his shifted form—a white-tailed hawk.
