They were on the beach for quite a while and the boy got sick. I really enjoyed this section as the man tried desperately to monitor the boy, making sure he could kill himself fast enough to meet the boy in the blackness. Tragic but very meaningful and will certainly stick with me. The boy survives, and then a man comes and takes it all. The boy says: “I am the one.” in reference to worrying. About the flame.

Awesome escape from the dark with lightning. The descriptive language of the beach portion has been phenomenal beyond what I expected of McCarthy. I thought the man’s decision to search for the ship’s additional loot in the cockpit was really neat, I loved that. Can’t wait to see the boy’s excitement from the flarepistol getting used.

The boat was very fun, the beach disappointment was tragic for the boy. It does make you wonder what exactly happened to cause so much ash. There were mentions of "Firestorms" earlier when they crossed the melted road with dozens of dead in the ash. The blue ocean is gone and it's simply gray. I enjoy it when they're just collecting items and McCarthy flexes his descriptive writing capabilities.

They find shelter again, I really enjoyed the big house portion, "I think maybe they are watching, he said. They are watching for something even death cannot undo and if they do not see it they will turn away from us and they will not come back." I take this quote to refer perhaps, to the boy and the man's relationship. A father and son, they have maintained a true, human bond in the time of people cooking their kid.

Lots of talk of fear of death and memory’s of the old world and new. Basically just conversation about how important little things were in the old world, like the space that books took up. That’s really interesting and some of the most cool topics of discussion in an apocalyptic setting, and I think it’s done wonderfully here. The road is dangerous and devoid of hope, yet they keep dredging on

They’ve just left the bunker. An extremely sad development, the “little paradise” they found on the brink of death. I love this book so far and its discussion of what it means to live and survive, to be a “good guy” in the lost world. To give up, or to not give up. I love the small moments of remembering the world as it was, the bunker being a time capsule of sorts. And then what it became.
