I've barely started this and there is likely (I hope) more going on, but honestly it's an incredible bit to meet the handsome but brooding, clearly unhappily married male love interest and then find out it's just that his wife is fat. And of course, fat=slovenly=unsophisticated in this character portrayal. Other aspects of this story do have appeal but we have to see how she writes her way out of that ridiculousness!
