I always thought Schindler was supposed to be a great guy, a hero. However, in the book he's difficult to like and definitely not a hero. He's portrayed as opportunistic, a philander, and a drunk hustler. In real life he may have done some good. But if this is who he was, he didn't do it for the better good; he did it for his own gain (monetary and to protect his hide when it was all over).

I'm both ashamed to say that it took me this long to finally read Schindler's List and wondering if that was for the best...... The wiring is so dry and there are so many people and German titles thrown around that I feel a little bombarded with too much info at once. I've read that it gets better, so I'm hoping that it does.
