I was expecting a personal account of learning French, which is included, but there is a lot of language history as well. What is Love in French? Given the title, I was anticipating stories of her romance with, and eventual marriage to, a French man, as well as stories about learning the French language. Instead it's history lessons, stories about her and her husband living in Geneva, her childhood, and her family.
