I’m beginning to understand the idea of acceptance and acknowledging when Mara comes to visit. Being given visual methods I think is going to help a great deal, I am going to try and incorporate the phrase “I see you Mara” into my daily thoughts and life

We are now getting into the idea of addictions or “substitutions” as Brach phrases it. Although I feel ashamed of my substitutions, learning to accept the trauma that caused them helps me feel free of them, even if just for a moment. I feel utilizing simple methods like the pause and remembering anecdotes from this whole chapter will help me accept and heal my substitutions in due time.

A lot of this book has been putting name to methods I have tried to experience on my own but was never able to make as a tangible and eventually enjoyable overall experience, such as truly allowing painful emotions or sensations in the way they enter and leave on their own accord. How beautiful is it that we don’t have to claim these as ours, considering that’s all they are?

Still great, concepts are not fully sinking in at first but alike to the author, I think it’s something you need to understand personally and in your own experience

So far so good, the ideas of self-forgiveness and not being harsh on yourself for acting out are hard to take in, but I’m sure methods will come later in the book
