🤣I mean, I get Fitchner, from his perspective, he spent decades building a rebellion, an underground network of spies and assassins and this 21 years old is about to risk it all because he's in love

He pulls back and wipes snot from his nose. “Always, Darrow. Always.”

yeah, Darrow is impressive as hell

“Audentes fortuna juvat, darlings,” Sevro says over a private com-line. I burst out laughing at the Latin.
“More ‘Fortune favors the bold’ crap? Why not just say carpe diem?”
“Because it’s tradition to say…”
“Do you boys always flirt like this before battle? It is adorable,” Victra adds.
“You should have seen them at the Institute, love at first howl,” Mustang laughs.
“I saw the clips! What a lovely couple.”

This race—what a beautiful monster. They carry all of humanity’s strengths,except one. Empathy. They can change. I know that. Perhaps not now, perhaps not in four generations. But it begins today, the end of their Golden Age.

I should be better. I want to be. I am being better in the end. But with the means to reach that end … am I just like all the other lost souls?

(I'll admit, Iron Rain is a cool term)

How can I let her? If she gives me her heart, I’ll break it. My lie is too great to build a love upon. When she discovers what I am, she will reject me. Even if she could survive that, I would not.

This whole chapter made Mustang character and their relationship so much more impactful than it was before, and I already liked them.

"Sevro?”I look around for him. He’s loitering around Pliny’s eyeball.
“Can I …” He gestures to it.
“What?”
“Can I have it?”
“All yours.”
He scoops up the eyeball and jams it into his pocket, grinning merrily. “Collecting the set, hopefully.”

She is not a distraction. She does not compromise my mission. She is the point of it all. Yet I cannot kiss her. Not now when I must break her heart to break this empire. It would not be fair. I’ve fallen in love with her, but she’s fallen for my lies
Darrow and Sevro have the top spot relationship in this series, but Darrow and Mustang have the second.

On another note, the politic in this series is 🤌

Is he trapping me? No. No, if that’s true, then the game is already over. Who is closer to me than he? Who loves me more than this strange, nasty outcast? No one.

Their friendship is everything

And though they die, I feel the flickering of rebellion as I give them permission to do what they’ve wanted to do their entire lives. It’s there, even if you never see it till the end—that spark of individuality, of freedom.

Darrow officially begun the war.
He's reckless and his plans too, but I'd follow him too because he dares what nobody else can even think of and finds a way. And he and Sevro brotp 4e

Another flash of lightning and he appears, floating in the bitter storm like the ugliest angel ever shit out of heaven. A wolfpelt hangs from his shoulders, whips in the wind. His black metal helmet is that of a wolfshead, and he’s armed to the bloody teeth.
Sevro has come, and he’s brought friends.
