The Orphan Palace is like a novelation of sorts for an unwritten Sin City tale by Frank Miller: while stylistically bold, it is not every nuanced contentwise. Both share a gleeful boyish fondness for brutality, violence and darkness that could offend the average person. Not sure if I like this or not - the more I read it just seems like Pulver is spinning his wheels.

Not sure I'd call The Orphan Palace "experimental". The style reminds me of something somebody in grade school might write: they have read books but don't know what the "rules" are for writing one because they have never really thought about it before. I am not saying this is a bad thing by any means, either. There is something pleasingly juvenile about it. Intrigued.
