I'm so confused. This is supposed to be the first book in a series, but it kicks off with characters from another series by Ella Frank, yet nothing really gets explained?

"we've wanted you since the Christmas Incident 6 months ago" in Chapter 1, but who the fuck are these people and what happened at Christmas? I'm half-way through and I still barely know.
