The family kept urging Yeong-hye to have meat. Father's short temperament caused him to strike her twice, even telling the others to hold her & force feed her.
When Father managed to get food into her mouth, she spit the food out, ran to the kitchen, and slit her wrist. The mother fainted, and this entire scene unfolded in front of the children too.
