Did ppl back then really talk this much?

You really have to accept that old books were written differently and there was a different standard to them. Now certain things would be considered bad if it was in modern books, but u just have to accept it.
Why is there 5 pages of straight dialogue. I mean they are talking philosophy, so it's not completely useless. But still omg

"It would be intolerable to me to pass a whole evening tête à tête with a brat. Don’t draw that chair further off, Miss Eyre; sit down exactly where I placed it—if you please, that is."

This is a comedy

I really like this book, but it is soo difficult to read. As in to find the motivation for it, it is so slow. Whenever I do read it, I am delighted. But I have been trying to read this book for like a year 😭
