so much MMC acting like a dick and FMC immediately forgiving him - he may be *saying* mean things, but the fmc *just knows* he's being honest when he apologizes (and not when he's saying mean things, I guess). unromantic to me that the fmc "feels safe" and trusts him when he treats her the same as all the "bad" people always have (he knows best, she just needs to listen and stop being "crazy")

I like this book, but the MMC having zero empathy for the FMC while whining about his own circumstances all the time is so off-putting. Especially bc I assume he knew what he was getting her into. But he's content to just let it drive her "crazy" or to her own death, I guess! How dare she ask for a tiny bit of attention! So spoiled!!!! /s It's worse that the FMC swoons every time he smiles or deigns to talk to her.
