I was only out to test this book but from the first chapter, I met the figure of Taylor who doesn't mince words or wallow. I've read too many pastiches of investigators. Somehow this figure was not a person I rolled my eyes at. He isn't afraid of celebrity and forthright. Despite the loss of his family, he's not outwardly depressive. Most of all, he doesn't fall for beautiful women out to get him. Refreshing!
