This might be the one. Apparently I read three of his other books and liked them (in 2018, I don't remember a lot about them). I like the story, I like the setting a lot, I think the writing is... not so good. O well, you can't have it all (you can, but we aren't reading it). So far it feels A LOT like Gideon the Ninth to me, but the dialogue style is more appropriate to the setting. Excited to see where this goes.
