The story takes place during the school year from September to December in an American Family. Most of the daily chaos happens inside the Heffley family house where Greg lives with his parents and brothers. Greg spends a lot of time at his local middle school trying to survive classes and avoid embarrassment. Other key events are, his grandfather's retirement home where Greg tries to hide a big secret.

GENRE:Humor and realistic fiction, I know this because I was learning a lot about genres in 5th grade. The book tells a lot of real things that shows its realistic fiction. it also shows a lot of stuff about humor.

this book is mostly about how the two brothers of the book argue a lot. the two brothers are Greg Heffley and Rodrick Heffley. Greg gets made fun of by his brother because he does some very embarrassing things over the summer. Greg can't tell his mom or dad because then Rodrick will tell everyone in greg's school embarrassing things about Greg.
